Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires Review for Nintendo Switch - A Disappointing Port

Koei Tecmo Games' Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires has finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch, marking the first Empires game to hit the console and only the second Dynasty Warriors proper title since 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9. Unfortunately, this port of the action-packed hack-and-slash game fails to impress, plagued by poor visual fidelity, a subpar framerate, and other technical issues.

One of the most noticeable problems with Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires on Switch is its poor visual quality. Low-resolution textures frequently pop in and out of existence during battles, making it difficult to discern details from a distance. The addition of Secret Plans adds a nice wrinkle to battles, as players must balance their broader goals with specific conditions to launch or prevent certain plans. Successfully activating these plans often requires keeping a specific group of captains alive or capturing certain bases within a short timeframe. Each opposing army has one potential plot determined at the battle's outset, which can tilt the odds in their favor.

Overall, Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires on Switch is a disappointing port that fails to live up to its full potential due to poor visuals and technical issues. While it still manages to offer some engaging gameplay mechanics, these are overshadowed by the game's numerous flaws. Fans of the series may want to consider other platforms for their gaming fix.
